Solsky earns A-League contract with Perth Glory

In form Wollongong Wolves goalkeeper Daniel Solsky – who came through the junior ranks at Maccabi-Hakoah and then Hakoah FC’s state youth league and pathways programs – has earned his first full-time professional A-League contract, signing with Perth Glory last Friday on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old former Moriah College student has been outstanding for the Wolves in the NPL NSW and the Australian Championship in the past two seasons, making 44 appearances, keeping 12 clean sheets and being named in the NPL NSW men’s Team of the Round list on several occasions this year.

Between his time at Hakoah FC and the Wolves, the 1.91m tall shot-stopper gained overseas experience with Spanish club Marbella FC.

Solsky said he is grateful to Perth Glory’s coaching staff and football director for the opportunity, and is determined to repay their faith.

“It [an A-League contract] is something I’ve been working towards for a long time, and I’m ready to come in, work hard, and do everything I can to repay that faith,” he said.

“From my experience so far, the culture at Glory has been first class, and there’s a great feeling amongst all involved. I’m looking forward to working with high-quality coaches and players, pushing myself every day, and continuing to become the best that I can be.

“My focus now is on contributing as much as I can, and being part of a team that has a successful 2026/27 season.”

Glory football director Stan Lazaridis said Solsky came highly recommended by Wolves coach Luke Wilkshire, and described him as “a very talented young goalkeeper who we have had our eye on for some time”.

“He’s got a good physical presence about him, makes some really big saves, and has the type of strong work ethic that will make him an excellent fit for our squad.”

Wilkshire said, “Daniel has been fantastic during his time at the Wolves, and I would like to thank him for all his hard work, commitment and efforts.”

Hakoah FC expressed its delight for Solsky, who came through its youth program, and joins fellow Hakoah alumni Aden Green – a former Australian Joey currently playing for the Wisconsin Badgers – and former Western Sydney Wanderer Zac Sapsford, who is now the top striker for Scottish Premier League club Dundee United, as he enters his second season there.

To Solsky, Hakoah said,”We’re sending our congratulations to you Daniel – we know you’ll absolutely smash it.”

Sapsford commented that Solsky’s A-League signing is “well-deserved”, and sport and football reporter and presenter Daniel Garb expressed “delight for the lad, [who] has worked his backside off for the chance, and has finally got it … the Glory are getting a talent and an excellent character”.

Maccabi Australia also congratulated Solsky, posting that his breakthrough into the A-League is “a proud moment for the former Maccabi, Hakoah FC and [2022] Maccabiah champion [keeper for Australia], as he begins this exciting new chapter”.

Meanwhile, in more good news, former Glory NPL player Royie Rahamim, 21, was recently signed by the University of California Irvine.

And Moriah alumnus and former Hakoah and Sydney FC Academy player Dov Baron, 18, was snapped up by German club Siegburger SV.
