Students unite with Ukraine

JEWISH primary schools in Sydney, in collaboration with UIA, were encouraged to connect with their Jewish brothers and sisters in Ukraine by sending them letters of kindness and encouragement.

The students wrote to the children of Ukrainian families who will soon arrive in Israel, having suddenly found themselves as refugees.

UIA NSW Women’s Division president Caroline Bolot spoke to students of Moriah College and Masada College about the challenges thousands of children their own age are facing in Ukraine and how UIA is helping them.

“I felt sorry for the Ukrainian children and wanted to give them hope and make them feel safe when I wrote them a card,” said Bo Fourie, a year 4 student at Moriah College. “I wanted to tell them that so many countries are helping and they will be safe.”

Yair Miller, UIA CEO, said the compassion shown by the students was heart-warming.

“UIA is in a unique position to connect our community and those who have suddenly found their worlds turned upside down with love and support,” he said.

“This small gesture will hopefully add some light to the challenging situation these Ukrainian families have found themselves in.”
