All Things Equal (ATE), a kosher social enterprise café located in Carlise Street, Balaclava, has launched a vibrant new menu that celebrates inclusion, community and the transformative power of meaningful work.

Established to create pathways into paid employment for people with disability, ATE has supported over 60 trainees through its structured three-stage program. Participants begin by building skills with practical training in real hospitality environments, progress into paid roles in our cafe, and transition into long-term employment with industry partners. Each step is supported by trainers and employment mentors, ensuring real outcomes for individuals and businesses alike.

The organisation’s vision is grounded in the belief that employment provides more than financial independence – it creates connection, confidence and a sense of purpose. The idea is that when the right support structures are in place, individuals can unlock their full potential and contribute meaningfully to something bigger than themselves.

It was founded by Jonathan Wenig out of concern that there were not enough employment opportunities for people with special needs, including his daughter Tali who has autism.

For many people with special needs, ATE is a haven of opportunity.

“Working gives me the confidence to take on new challenges,” says ATE employee Lloyd Clarke. “Since starting at All Things Equal, I’ve learned so many practical skills from time management and maintaining my uniform to personal presentation, clear communication, and listening better. These are life skills. They make me feel prepared and capable, both at work and beyond.”

The new café menu reflects this energy and warmth, featuring fresh, plant-powered dishes like chai-spiced porridge with banana brûlée and poached pear, fluffy waffles with lemon curd and berry compote, and a hearty mushroom burger with tomato relish, vegan cheddar, and pickled onion. Even classic favourites like avo toast and chilli scramble have been given a fresh new twist. All offerings are certified by Kosher Australia.

ATE has also expanded its catering menu, ideal for corporate meetings, events, or family gatherings. Highlights include Baharat pumpkin salad with spiced lentils, mint syrup and labneh, Persian jewelled rice with saffron, cardamom, cranberries, apricots and herbs, and okonomiyaki boxes with pink ginger aioli, BBQ sauce and sushi crisps.
