Suspects arrested in Greek synagogue arson attack

TWO suspects have been arrested following an arson attack on a synagogue in Corfu, Greece.

Torah scrolls, books and documents reportedly were piled in front of the 19th century synagogue building’s bima and set on fire early Monday morning on the eve of Passover. Some of the texts were hundreds of years old.

The two suspects arrested on Wednesday are also suspected of vandalizing the Jewish community’s offices on the island, Ynet reported. Police are investigating whether the suspects have links to terror organizations.

The police have tightened security around Israeli sightseeing groups arriving on the island.

About 100 Jews live on Corfu, according to the Associated Press.
