ONE of the community’s oldest institutions, the Sydney Chevra Kadisha, was honoured on Sunday at Rookwood Jewish Cemetery.

In front of community dignitaries, Jack Fisher, chairman of the Jewish Cemetery Trust (JCT), dedicated a 3940-grave section of the cemetery to the Chevra Kadisha.

The JCT, as the organisation responsible for all aspects of the Jewish cemetery, decided to recognise its association with the Chevra Kadisha and its¬† “outstanding and sensitive” service to the Jewish community, Fisher said.

The memorial stone to dedicate the section was unveiled by former president of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies David Knoll and vice president of the Great Synagogue Michael Gold.
