TRIATHLON

Pager wins opener

TEN competitors participated in the first Maccabi NSW triathlon race of the year last Sunday at Heffron Reserve and Aquatic Centre in ideal warm, sunny conditions.

A group of four athletes – Roy Cohen, Norman Abel, Tim Lindop and Craig Pager – finished the opening swimming leg together in under 13 minutes.

After a quick transition, they began the cycling leg, which suited Pager, who sped through the course, posting one of the quickest recorded times in recent years, 31 minutes, and was followed into the running leg by Lindop and a group of three – Cohen, Abel, and Mal Kofsky.

Pager showed impressive endurance to complete the run leg in 20 minutes, and win the triathlon in a total time of 65 minutes. Lindop was the runner-up and Abel finished third.

A round of applause was reserved for Doron Lazarus, who was competing in his first Maccabi NSW triathlon.
