There’s a seder near you

IF you don’t have a seder to go to this Pesach, don’t despair - there’s a communal seder happening at a synagogue near you.

IF you don’t have a seder to go to this Pesach, don’t despair – there’s a communal seder happening at a synagogue near you.

Central Synagogue’s second night communal seder, which will be catered by Passion8, will feature singing, communal participation and plenty of activities for children. “It’s easy to follow, enjoyable, meaningful and a family friendly seder,” Rabbi Levi Wolff, who will lead the seder, said.

Emanuel Synagogue’s Rabbi Jacqueline Ninio said over 100 people are expected at their communal second night seder. “There’ll be singing, celebrating our freedom, great food and lots of discussion,” she said.

Emanuel is also holding a special women’s seder on Thursday, April 21. “Women are quite significant in the Pesach story so we have a hagadah that focuses on their role and importance,” she said.

Chabad Double Bay is holding its “Communal Family Pesach Seder” on Tuesday, April 19. Bookings are essential. “It’s open to anyone who wants to come and is always a wonderful spiritual experience,” a spokesperson said.

Kensington Shul’s Rabbi Eli Cohen said the synagogue was finalising its plans for a second night communal seder, with those interested able to contact him directly on the number below.

For those north of the bridge, the North Shore Jewish Community Centre is organising a seder for anybody who needs one, while North Shore Temple Emanuel is holding a second night seder within its VJs function centre.

“Our seder is always a joy – it reflects the spirit of my own family seder which my mother inspired in us,” Rabbi Gary Roebuck said. The evening will feature traditional songs and for the children, Rabbi Roebuck will use props to tell the story of Pesach in a “colourful and engaging way”.

“And you know the best thing about it,” he said, “you don’t have to clean up afterwards.”
