Treating the whole patient: The Emeline is open for comprehensive patient care

Holistic health care is key when it comes to achieving your long-term health goals. Which is what The Emeline is all about.

Holistic and comprehensive patient-first medical care sounds like a wonderful idea in theory, but always seems difficult to locate across Melbourne’s jam-packed medical industry.

This problem was the driving force behind The Emeline, a brand-new medical clinic in Malvern, formed by a group of health professionals who wanted to bring the conditions of great primary healthcare into the 21st century.

Daniel Lichtblau, CEO of The Emeline, believes that centralising an individual’s health and wellbeing through a broad and highly skilled medical team can be integral to ensuring a healthy future.

“We wanted a strong focus on a sense of community and belonging. Care can be so fragmented and having a GP that knows you well is central to keeping well. Keeping our patients safe and healthy, especially given the ongoing challenges and stresses posed by the pandemic, is one of our core tenets,” Lichtblau said.

“We also wanted to be able to take the time to tend to our patients’ concerns, goals and priorities.

“We knew we needed to build a skilled team which understands the importance of good communication, has expertise across a range of disciplines, who focuses on not only the acute issues but also preventative and opportunistic care, and to make this all accessible in the one location.”

The Emeline’s focus is providing a point of distinction from other medical practices and centres; open seven days a week with offerings across the board from dermatology and urology to gastrointestinal and gut health.

Onsite pathology also allows for blood tests and ECGs straight after your appointment with no bookings required, and you can have a stress-free waiting experience in The Emeline’s chic waiting spaces, with tea and coffee facilities, phone and laptop charging points, comfortable seating and a children’s play area.

Anticipated new arrivals at The Emeline in the near future entail exercise physiologists onsite from Pace, new physiotherapists from Flexed and the expertise of Dr Mary Fonti, a fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, who’s a cosmetic physician with over 15 years of medical experience, and will be joining the team for skin checks and aesthetic medicine.

For Lichtblau, the most rewarding aspect of opening up the practice has been helping patients get back on track with their health following the COVID pandemic, reprioritising getting on top of their wellbeing goals and catching up on preventative health housekeeping such as cancer screening and health checks.

“We want to treat ‘the whole person’ and not just isolated medical conditions. We know that in order for this to occur we need to ensure that our patients are receiving high-quality communication, and overall, for the experience of attending a doctor to be rewarding and positive.”
