Tree of Life victims remembered
'We wanted to express our ongoing grief and mourning and to tell those who are left behind that we have not forgotten them, that we still care'.
TO mark the second anniversary of the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, the Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) has produced a short film commemorating the victims of the massacre.
On October 27, 2018, a gunman opened fire at the shule killing 11 people and injuring six.
Interweaving images of the congregants whose lives were cut down, the ADC film, Australia Remembers the Victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue, which can be seen at www.antidefamation.com.au, features locals relating short biographies of each of those killed and reciting a prayer.
“We wanted to express our ongoing grief and mourning and to tell those who are left behind that we have not forgotten them, that we still care and that the lights of the victims still shine in our hearts,” said ADC chair Dvir Abramovich.
“Above all, we want to ensure that with each anniversary, this tragedy, the deadliest antisemitic attack on US soil, does not slip into the enveloping fog of amnesia.
“This symbolic overture is in many ways a living memorial to our beautiful brothers and sisters whose lives were cut short by an act of pure hate, and whose names are forever etched in our minds.
“Today, we are all worshippers of the Tree of Life Synagogue.”
