Trio of Maccabi teams win Randwick netball titles

It was a triple grand final triumph for Maccabi at the 2025 Randwick Netball Association grand finals.

In a perfect and proud outcome for Maccabi NSW Netball Club – on the most important day of the 2025 Randwick Netball Association season – all three of their teams that qualified for last Saturday’s grand finals, rose to the occasion with outstanding wins – against the ladder leaders in their competitions.

First up for Maccabi was the never-say-die Maccabi White U13 division 5 side.

They’d qualified in fourth place, before beating two higher-ranked teams in consecutive finals games, before outlasting first-placed Coogee by 14-13 in an epic decider.

With the scores tied, Amber Isaacs kept her cool when scoring the winning goal.

Coach Indi Hardy said, “I’m so proud of this team – at one stage they were in sixth-place in the comp.

“I think it was the relationships between all the players that really proved the difference – they kept getting better.”

The team’s captain, Ellie Brock, said, “We all knew we could do this – we just had to keep backing each other each quarter.

“It feels amazing to win it.”

Next up was a Maccabi White side in formidable form in the top division of the U14 competition.

The only thing in their way was a Randwick Rugby and Netball Club team they’d lost to by just 3 points in a major semi-final.

This time, it was the Maccabi side that prevailed, and by 42-14.

Team captain Awen Hiroti said, “We started the game with a lot of confidence, and we just kept at it.”

Teammate Taylor Topper said, “We were well-prepared by our coach, and we really wanted it – it’s amazing.”

Coach Vanessa Abrahams said, “Credit to them – they’d never beaten that team before, but they just focused not on the score each quarter, but on playing better netball, and they executed really well as a result.

“In fact, they had no idea they’d won by so much!”

Finally, the club’s second-placed Intermediate division 7 side held on for a well-earned 17-15 grand final win over a Marrickville RSL team they’d lost to in the semis by 11 points.

Delighted captain Allie Joseph said, “Determination, and always working as a team, got us here, and showing fighting spirit too.”

Abrahams, who also coached this side, said “These girls have played together now for five years, and they showed real patience when shooting for goal in the windy conditions today.

“They didn’t rush, and that was the key today.”

Outgoing Maccabi Netball Club president Michelle Samuel said the trio of grand final wins “capped off a phenomenal season.

“The club continued to grow, and it’s the first time in a long while that one of our teams won a grand final in the top division.

“We’ve also continued our focus on quality coaching and training, and our umpiring program.

“I’d also like to thank our committee, who work hard behind the scenes.”
