(THE TIMES OF ISRAEL) The Palestinian Authority has welcomed the UN Security Council’s approval of a US-drafted resolution supporting President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, urging its rapid implementation.

In a statement carried by the Wafa news agency, the PA said it was ready to work with the Trump administration, the EU, Muslim states and other international partners to advance a process it claims would “end the suffering of our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem” and revive a political path based on a two-state solution grounded in international law.

The PA also thanked countries that backed what it described as Palestinian efforts toward “freedom and independence” and a comprehensive regional settlement.

President Trump hailed the decision as a historic breakthrough, saying the vote would lead to “further peace all over the world,” while offering no direct reference to Israel, Hamas or the Palestinians.

The vote triggered immediate political criticism in Israel. Opposition leader Avigdor Liberman accused the government of catastrophic mismanagement, calling the outcome “a fire sale of Israel’s security” and warning that it paved the way for “a Palestinian state, a Saudi nuclear program and advanced fighter jets for Turkey and Saudi Arabia.”

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon stressed that Trump’s plan requires the disarmament of Hamas, saying Israel remained fully committed to eliminating the terror group’s military capability while continuing efforts to secure the release of hostages.

Hamas rejected the resolution outright, claiming it undermines Palestinian rights and imposes an unwanted international trusteeship on Gaza. The group vowed it would not disarm and insisted that “resisting occupation by all means is a legitimate right.”
