Roy Vandersluis claimed the NSW Jewish Golf Championships for a record ninth time at Kooindah Waters on the Central Coast last weekend.

Vandersluis, who won the inaugural NSW Jewish Golf Championships in 1977 at Monash Country Club, won with rounds of 79 and 80 on the par-72 course.

“I kind of fell into the win because I don’t think anyone played particularly well but It was a great course and really enjoyable,” Vandersluis , who has a handicap of three, said.

He said it capped off a great 12 months, which included winning a gold medal at the 2009 Maccabiah Games and being the flag-bearer for Australia at the opening ceremony.

“I’ve been playing pretty good golf recently.

“Winning a gold medal at the Maccabiah will remain one of the highlights of my life and recently I finished third at the NSW Senior Amateur Golf Championships.

Reichman had the round of the weekend with a one-over par 73.

In an endeavour to rejuvenate the NSW Jewish Golf Championships the event had a dramatic facelift this year and instead of a single day event in November at the Monash Golf Club it moved out of Sydney.

It was held over two days at the tough Craig Parry designed Central Coast Course and was well supported with 84 starters, including 32 a-grader competitors and 10 golfers under the age of 23.

The course won unanimous praise from all competitors

Tony Abrahamson won the b-grade competition ahead of David Goldin with 69 points while Geoff Rudman won the c-grade title with 59 points.

Gary Burg won the senior stableford was won by Gary Burg with two consistent rounds of 36 and 35 points.

Brett Wasserman, off a handicap of 11, had 72 points over the two-day event and won the a-grade individual stableford and the Brett Levien Memorial Trophy for the best overall stableford score.
