AFTER surviving breast cancer herself, Cecile Radomsky is now turning her efforts towards helping others through the National Council of Jewish Women of Australia (NCJWA).

Radomsky is among a handful of breast cancer survivor volunteers providing comfort to women currently recovering from the illness as part of Jewish Women Breast Cancer Network’s (JWBCN) one-on-one support program, which was launched last month.

“It does help if they see someone who has gone through it,” the 69-year-old told The AJN. “We can also empathise with them and know the emotions that they are going through as a woman.”

Each volunteer underwent training with Cancer Council Australia, and will also be offered professional coaching and peer support along the way.

“The volunteers, whether mothers, lawyers or psychologists, have all experienced the challenges of coping with the disease and appreciate the value of non-judgmental, emotional and confidential support on a regular weekly basis,” said Dalia Ayalon Sinclair, president of NCJWA, which supports JWBCN.

“They feel blessed to have a second chance in life, and are passionate about helping others who are facing the unknown journey.”
