The queen of rock n’ roll

Direct from Broadway, Tina the Musical is premiering at Theatre Royal Sydney in May 2023. The smash hit musical phenomenon celebrates the unstoppable woman who brought the world hits such as Simply the Best, What’s Love Got to Do With It and Proud Mary, among many others.

The musical shares Turner’s story, and her journey from cotton picker when she was a child and nurse’s aide after graduating school, to one of the most renowned performers of our time.

She has received 12 Grammys, was the first black artist and female to be on the cover of Rolling Stone and is a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. And now, her story is coming to the stage.

As the saying goes, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them.

The musical has played in 16 countries around the world and has been translated into six languages, as it shares the life-affirming friendship between the two young women who grow up to be Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The musical has proven so popular that by the time it performs again in Sydney in August 2023, it will have become the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history, even surpassing CATS.

Long before Dorothy dropped in, two other young women meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery, misunderstood and possessing an extraordinary talent. The other is bubbly, blonde, ambitious and exceptionally popular. They become rivals, then friends … until the world decides to call one “good” and the other one “wicked”.

A love letter to theatre

Just prior to the opening night of Rent, its creator and composer Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning composer Jonathan Larson tragically passed away.

But, before Rent, Larson had created another musical, Tick, Tick… Boom! And just like his Tony Award-winning smash hit, it was another piece of genius left behind.

Recently developed into a film by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tick, Tick… Boom! is an endearing rock musical and a love letter to theatre and New York City alike.

It is a true hidden treasure of Broadway, that will inspire anyone who has had to fight for what they want.

Tick, Tick… Boom! first premiered Off-Broadway in 2001 and has toured extensively since including a US national tour, West End production, an Off-Broadway revival and numerous international productions.

It will premiere at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre in February 2023.
