Yaffe appointed youth rabbi
RABBI Danny Yaffe has been appointed as youth rabbi of The Great Synagogue, a role the shul hopes will engage young members of the community.
Formerly of Young Adult Chabad (YAC), Rabbi Yaffe, who will start in the new position with Rebbetzin Sara-Tova Yaffe shortly, said the move comes with mixed emotions.
“While there are many bittersweet emotions in this move, and while we are sad to leave the YAC community, we are extremely excited about the new role and all that we will be able to bring to the youth at The Great Synagogue and the wider Jewish community,” Rabbi Yaffe said this week.
Describing the rabbi as “young and energetic with a proven record with young adults”, Great Synagogue president Justice Stephen Rothman said: “His task will be to work with the young members of the community in making The Great relevant in their lives, and engaging with the wider young community.”
YAC president Alex Stupar said Rabbi and Rebbetzin Yaffe have been an invaluable asset over many years.
“Their dedication and commitment to the welfare of young adults in our community has been exemplary,” he said.
YAC director Rabbi Eli Feldman added: “We are certain that The Great Synagogue will be enriched by their presence, the good work that they do, and the commitment that they have to the community. We wish them much success in their new role.”
Rabbi Yaffe paid tribute to Rabbi Feldman and Rebbetzin Elka Feldman, saying: “Their support, guidance and friendship has been incredibly influential in who we have become. We wish [them] and the YAC team great success and may you go from strength to strength in all that you do.”
YAC said an announcement would be made shortly about new staffing arrangements to ensure the “continued growth and development of our programs and services”.
Meanwhile, The Great Synagogue is still seeking a new senior rabbi following the departure of Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence.
The AJN understands that interviews with potential candidates for the role have begun, with further contenders from overseas due to be interviewed next month.
