Emanuel ends face-to-face learning

SYDNEY’S Emanuel School will be closed on Monday to enable for the transition to internet-based teaching in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Principal Andrew Watt sent a letter to parents on Sunday informing them that the school would transition to its online learning platform from Tuesday, March 24.

The school will be closed on Monday, March 23 to enable teachers to prepare for the change.

“It is my hope that we can reach the end of Term 1 safely, having enjoyed a positive engagement with our online learning platform,” Watt said.

The school will remain open for children of essential service workers or other students who are unable to be supervised at home. Watt said they will be accommodated in “large spaces”.

“We will continue to provide this service until directed otherwise by the government,” he said.

Emanuel’s Kornmehl pre-school will close its doors at 4pm on Monday.

It follows Moriah and Kesser Torah Colleges moving to online learning last week.

Melbourne’s Yeshivah-Beth Rivkah Colleges closed their doors earlier this month after a teacher and a student there tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. All Victorian schools will shut from Tuesday.

It was also revealed last Friday that an overseas guest at a wedding at the Pullman Hotel in Melbourne’s Albert Park last Sunday had tested positive for the virus.

The AJN understands several members of the Sydney Jewish community attended the wedding.
