A three-year campaign led by former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer to posthumously promote Jewish Australian WWI legend General Sir John Monash to Field Marshal is alive again, with independent MP for Indi Catherine McGowan announcing on Monday that she will introduce a private member's bill to Parliament to achieve that objective on October 22 – just two days after the Wentworth by-election.

A DECISION to name a federal electorate after Sir John Monash has been hailed by the Jewish community and supporters of a campaign to raise the profile of the Jewish hero, World War I general and acclaimed civil engineer.

2018 is "an absolutely critical year" to push for and achieve the posthumous promotion of Jewish military legend General Sir John Monash to the highest Australian military rank of Field Marshal according to Saluting Monash Council (SMC) chairman Tim Fischer, who fears "the window of opportunity" will rapidly close after the centenary edition of Remembrance Day on November 11.

The push for the posthumous promotion of General Sir John Monash to Field Marshal gained further momentum on November 26 when former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer officially launched Professor Roland Perry's latest book, Monash and Chauvel.
